On The Bus, To The Left, To The Right Poem by Steven Harris

On The Bus, To The Left, To The Right

On the bus for a night
on the town
going through the
forgotten part of the land
turning to the right to
see
a burnt out car on
the green
a smashed up shop
smashed up bus stop
tramp sleeping on a
park bench
turning to the left to
see
high rise buildings
teenagers listening to
gangster rap
hoods over their heads
drinking white ace and
frosty jack
glass bottles on the floor from the
night before
16 year old pushing
a pram
two kids in the front
fag in the side of her
mouth
old lady with an
umbrella
holding her bag as tight as
she can
back to the right to
see
a couple having a
fight
little girl with little
doll next to them
14 year olds with a
stolen moped
another smashed up
bus stop
back to the left to see
disused warehouses
empty car parks
another teenager with a
pram and a fag
police pulling a
car over
brown caravan outside
a dirty house
with boarded up windows
a white car without any wheels
and more smashed up
bus stops
even a smashed up chip
shop
and straight ahead
six hooded boys on bikes pulling
wheelies
and riding slow
on and on and on
cars all lined up
some smashed
some for sale
some sold
and some stolen
now leaving the estate and on to
the town centre
away from the forgotten
part of the city
and thats all it is
forgotten.
