On Our Way Poem by Holly Jamestone

On Our Way

Please let me stay a little while
And slowly help me see
The most important things in life
Which one day set us free

That schedules and keeping time
All end the same one day
And lead us to a pondering
Of all that we should say

I don't know much about the world
I do know life is fair
And though my May was arduous
I was within your care

I learned to crave the gift of life
Of days, and nights, and song
Of hopes and dreams and memories
Of how to get along

To not forget to notice things
To treasure friends and love
To hold my family close to me
To thank you, God Above

Please let me stay a little while
And linger after spring
To share the lessons I have learned
To hear my grandson sing

To listen more intently
To the comments of a friend
To slow enough to offer strength
To those who need to mend

To thank my parents for the gifts
Of childhood and of life
To praise those I have leaned on
When my days were filled with strife

To not give up on love itself
To let it fill my days
And cleanse my heart and comfort me
In special, magic ways

And only after I have drunk
The wisdom from your stream
I'll join you on the beach of life
The one without a seam

I'll put my hope and trust in you
In all you do and say
I'll be there when you call to me and we'll be
ON OUR WAY
