On Memorial Day Poem by ANANIYA MULUNGU

On Memorial Day

Ten months down the memory lane
Posies of roses and garlands of wreaths
We somberly lay again
With our cavernous bated breaths
As sinking silence ensues
All our eyes are cast on the gravestone
And in them the tears to dehydrated they refuse
Yet only your greetings cards linger though you are gone
Those wintry nights we vividly rekindle
When you burnt the midnight oil
As though it was only a riddle
Shot to make our entrails boil
But ten months have gone down the memory lane
And to your toil there seems to be no gain
