On Justice Poem by Mike Barrett

On Justice

My heart is seldom
Moved to tears
But
When I contemplate
How democratic justice works
My mind
To penniless pockets first
Then
Cries my heart
As though should burst!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was written in the early '60s following a brief contemplation on Justice as we experience it here in Canada, a supposedly 'just' democracy. Are the poor of the country as 'justly' treated as rich and famous? (I think not.)
