Do our preachers in their pulpits
With expansion plans to nurse,
Strive earnestly to save our souls,
Or seek to grab our purse?
Our doctors, bound by ancient oath,
Are our choice of live or die
And they keep cutting wider slabs,
Of our dwindling money pie.
Some lawyers give but little heed
To one's innocence or guilt;
The monetary gain they chase
Is how their case is built.
The merchants, lenders, landlords all
Pursue us every way;
They lure us with their falsities
And then extract their pay.
I wonder as I wander on
This capitalistic road,
Perhaps some day we'll find a way
To ease this heavy load.
This is an excellent poem with a great meaning. I liked its theme on money and greed. Thanks. Also, I invite you to read and comment.
You hit the nail on the head Joe, looks like it's gonna get a lot worse.
You are sensitive to the social issues confronting modern man in the form of greed, exploitation, the rat race for unlawful wealth and power etc etc! The ordinary man with his draining wallet is finding it difficult to make both ends meet! This is the scenario everywhere! An excellent write of someone who has seen both the good and bad times of life! !
This is a brilliant poem Jo, it is so true not only of modern society but throughout history.
a great poem Joseph. This has a lot of truth these are problems in today's society. I like your first stanza, I see this every day. But let me say this they will not grab my purse because I keep a strong grip on it.
Who is responsible for all these miseries? Must be in the existing system which is driving one towards greediness and setting for him selfish goals. It is a thought provoking poem.
Yes. It's very hard making ends meet in these difficult times. A job well done. And thanks for putting it all into perspective.
You are right on here Joe; excellent thought, well conceived poem. Where it ends God only knows; ... but avarice is killing us.

I would like to translate this poem
Money comes before people, it seems to me, even in the medical profession. Very well expressed Joseph, and so very true. An excellent write.
