On Hearing Of The Death Of Denis Healy Poem by Francis Duggan

On Hearing Of The Death Of Denis Healy

Rating: 3.5

'Tis sad to think that he is gone forever
And that in Claraghatlea he won't be seen again
His wife and children left to grieve his passing
But memories of Denis Healy will remain.

He drove big trucks for Castlemore and Jacksy Lucey
And the narrow roads of North Cork and East Kerry he knew well
And of his travels through Muskerry, Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra
He had such marvellous stories for to tell.

I felt so sad to hear of Denis Healy
And it is way beyond me to explain
Why some good people are chosen to suffer
In life and death why is there so much pain?

Mere words as such are easy to be spoken
But through sympathetic words grief's burden can be shed
And that life goes on is part of the life cycle
And the living left to remember the dead

I picture him as living Denis Healy
For it is never hard to visualize
Him driving his big truck along the roadway
He comes to life again before my eyes.

I felt so sad to hear of Denis Healy
With the departed of Millstreet he lay
But he has left behind him such good memories
And good memories never seem to fade away.
