On Greatness Poem by Dr John Celes

On Greatness

How great one can become depends
On choice of God and grace;
While blessing from heaven descends,
We toil with pleasant face.

There is no time to feel jealous
Of others in high rungs;
We persevere and act zealous,
And praise God with our lungs.

God made the earth as only place
For man to live with ease;
He made by love the human race,
And wants it live in peace.

But devils have a score with God
To settle, but cannot;
God created hell as their rod,
Which they can’t change as lot.

The devils tempt souls go stray
By dubious, devious lies;
God listens when a man does pray
And lives aright, and dies.

The greatness that we get on earth
Can vanish anytime;
Your greatness God destines at birth,
To reach in any clime.

So, toil for greatness God bestows
In after-life for man;
We have to walk in righteous course;
With grace of God, we can.
