On Felicia Hemans Poem by Francis Duggan

On Felicia Hemans

She was forty one when she died but her name lives on as a classic poet
In the literary world of today she remains as one worthy of note
In the early nineteenth century at a time when women were kept down
The literary critics her did celebrate and her poems won her Worldwide renown
Felicia Hemans was a poetic great and though she passed on in her prime
Some of her poems seen as classics today they have survived the test of time
Her success offered many women writers at the time hope that her they might emulate
That one day like her they would be seen as writers for to celebrate
In her life a poetic great a legend around her had grown
Her poems read and recited today she is in a class of her own
Her poems were of people and life and Nature's praises she did sing
She penned poems that live on today such as Casabianca and The Voice Of The Spring
She died at forty one in eighteen thirty five and poems of beauty she did write
Her works are so easy to read and always a joy to recite.
