On A New Year Morning Poem by Rajesh Thankappan

On A New Year Morning

The primordial sun refreshed
Wakes up from rest,
Is there not something bright
That enlightens us in delight?
My squeaky old gate
I opened with a gait,
There was music in it
Which I discovered lying hid!
Birds with their everyday song
Heralds newness along
The cock with his pristine cry
Lightens up the sky!
There is newness in things-
In things common and in everything!
Greetings we exchange
There is a sublime, subtle change.
