Older Poem by Joan Hart

I'm older than I was, say just yesterday
I've retained more information - I've grown wiser in some way
And I can never get that day back or the youth that once was there
It's been stolen by a thief called 'Time, ' a criminal known everywhere

I'm older than I was in only the last hour
The precious moments slip away, as if by some mysterious power
Have I accomplished something of which I can be proud?
Have I lived hesitant and silent, instead of chancing it and being loud?

I'm older than I was just a minute ago
It could be my last one - one can never surely know
And if it was my time to leave as an earthly being
What would happen when I opened my eyes? Would it be heaven I'd be seeing?

I'm older than I was in just a second's time
It passes without my knowledge - a moment that was once mine
And while I'm pondering this, another day has passed
And I'm left far behind, for time moves much too fast

I'm older than I was - we all are, you know
Forced to only follow wherever time may go
And hope that we do our best in filling up the space
So that maybe we'll be worthy, once we leave this place
