Old Lady Wheels Poem by Della Perry

Old Lady Wheels

Always awaiting the visit
Patiently expecting the child
Eyes lit up with glee
A hug from a babe
A kiss on the cheek
Lovely old lady wheels.

A big smile on her face
A lovely perfumed embrace
Tips on how to make things
Shown love and respect
A knowledge of most things
My old lady wheels.

A strong commitment
A bond that was true
The child loved you too
As an adult misses you
You were always my friend
My old lady wheels.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
For Mrs Willis, an old lady from Dudley, who became like a Grandmother, and Mother to me, and took me under her wing. Without her calming influence and knowledge I may have gone even further from the rails.

thank goodness you left a poet's note. otherwise i would have lain awake tonight wondering if the old lady used a wheelchair or...................? poet's notes are always welcome, except the kind i've seen left by some Indian (i think) poets, who seem to just recite the poem in a different/prose way in their poet's notes! and i liked your PH bio: short and sweet, as we sometimes say. yes, you WERE fortunate to have her. i liked that you repeated old lady wheels at the end of each stanza. bri :) welcome to PH! !
