Old Age Fallacy. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

Old Age Fallacy.

Rating: 5.0

Someone asked me to explain
The word Fallacy yesterday
I smiled and commented
Its a fallacy that we older people
Know more about the world
We talk as if we own truth
We don't - not even a small bit
It is a fallacy that wisdom
Comes hand in hand with age
It comes hand in hand only with
Life experience gained by
Achievement of life, not age
I am old and maybe I can write some
But I am ignorant of oh so much
There are ideals I will never learn
Ideas that I will never learn
Values that I will never learn
As an old person clinging to
The Ideas, ideals and values
Of my youth gone, I must
Simply observe quietly
That, going on around me
And just nod my head at that
Which pleases me and smile
And the fact that what pleases me
Is still there, no more no less
Everything else is a fallacy.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
"You are old and therefore wise" she said." So what do you think? " I thought deeply
then replied " it is raining and water is dripping into my coffee. Can we move
to another table? " she stared at me "it is all relative" I answered to her unspoken question.

Hi Geoffrey, so many words describing us oldies and our we have seen it all, we have been there and done that comment, well written. Simply observe quietly That, going on around me And just nod my head at that Which pleases me and smile, on most days.
