Oh My Dear Daughter Poem by Bharati Nayak

Oh My Dear Daughter

Rating: 5.0

Oh my Dear daughter
I would always like
To see you
Looking at the sunshine
I would love to see you
Moving like a free cloud
And showering love
On parched ground
I would love to see you
Falling like a spring
Up on the hard rocks
And making way
For yourself
I would love to see you
As a candle dispelling darkness
I would love to see you
Gathering courage from every source
I would love to see you
Stand for the truth
And save every creature in distress
I would love to see you
Shine in your souI
With kindness.

What a beautiful poem, made up of a parent's wishes that her child's life is richly fulfilling, that the things which characterize it are things of moral value and not materialistic stuff. Which makes me read your poem as a prayer to some higher entity that listens to our expressions of love for others.. Your voice in this poem is so calm and focused, there's no nervous demands, just a quiet but deep joy in your daughter. This is the double effect of poetry: by expressing your feelings so vividly you evoke the same feelings in us.
