Offerings! Poem by Geetha Jayakumar

Offerings!

Rating: 4.5

I offered some
Fruits
In a cover
To the poor man
Who was begging
On the streets.
Though he was
Accepting coins
Who ever threw at him
But I thought
If I could provide him
Some fruits that could
Fill his stomach for
At least one time.
But to my utter
Dismay
He threw away
All at once
Not even bothered
To look
What it is.

Offerings should be given to
Only those who wish to
Receive it
Else valueless.
May be the knowledge itself.

A bitter experience when we are made to feel shy of our very generous act! Showing kindness to people who don't deserve it, can be like casting pearls before swines! A poem beautifully portraying a thankless soul! ! But still, let us try to believe that there is only a negligible few who are so callous and continue to show the same warmth to people who are deprived of what we enjoy!

Nice poem about the audacity of a beggar. Who say beggars can not be choosers.

Some people don't know when people are helping them. A great poem.
