Of What Use Is Courage? Poem by Andrea Scarpa

Of What Use Is Courage?

They're shutting down the factory today, everybody's protesting.
The workers finally took a stand, the people, they are fighting for their rights.

The factory that makes poison how can they shut it down?
Don't they care about all the people that need to put food on the table?
And what will be of all the families and the kids?
No smoke on the chimneys it looks so sad!

The workers fear there will be no more,
so they finally got some balls and got out to protest
for their right to sweat and spit blood and life till they're dry,
with their young old hands and faces covered in black.

What will be?
No more bread and gin and rum,
if they shut this down.
No more poison to breathe, eat and smell.

So the people took a stand with angry faces, so grey.
They will fight for their right to waste their life
on endless hours of back breaking non-sense,
fight for their right to depression and addiction,
fight for their right to sweat and spit blood and life till they're dry..they look so grey.

Can you see courage now?
You said courage is what they need
Face the truth, it’s just no use without eyes
They could quit living their lifes like lies
But the night they cannot read
Of what use is courage now?

Interesting story in this one. Is there a reason that you have used life for live throughout. Perhaps an enigma that I have missed. Read mine - The Hero Within - Adeline
