Of Love And Loss Poem by Byron Mihailides

Of Love And Loss

The bright sun rises
Over the endless horizon
As the tear of love
Glided down like a dove

Shenae was her name
Where the sun was the same
And he met her that day
When it refused to rain

Her beautiful brunette hair
He body moved with elegance and care
Her shining, sparkling eyes
Just made him want to rise

They met on the sandy beach
Her perfume, a scent of peach
He saw her, packing her bags
And walked over, wearing nothing but rags.

“Hello” he said,
With a big grin
She stared at him,
Taking him in

“Can I help? ” asked he
His smile radiated glee
“If you’d like” she replied
As he moved to her side

It was love at first sight
Which quickly took flight
They were deeply in love
Soaring, like a dove.

The bright sun rises
Over the endless horizon
As the tear of love
Came down from above

He began work in season
Because he now had a reason
She also worked harder
For she too had a lover

Overlooking the sea
The perfect place to be
He built their house
For his soon-to-be spouse

The day drew closer
For him and for her
The perfect dress was picked out
“its beautiful”, she would shout?

The peaceful moon rises
Over the endless horizon
As the tear of love
Glided down from above

Three days before their special day
The clouds above, were holding the rain
And on one sharp bend
That happy life would end

With a smash and a bang
A crash and a clang
Two small cars clash head on
One in the right and the other in the wrong

Moments later he awoke
To the sound of beeping, and the smell of smoke
Lying beside him, his spouse-to-be
Through the smoke, there was little to see

“Shenae” he said “Shenae Shenae”
But it was no use, calling her name
Her innocent face, a mess
So he placed a hand on her chest

A faint heartbeat gave him hope
But he knew her body was walking on a tightrope
He shuffled around and grabbed his phone
And with a trembling thumb, dialed OOO

The deathly moon rises
Over the endless horizon
As the tear of love
Glided down like a dove

The ambulance quickly came
And did their best in the pouring rain
He heard the words “A coma”
And knew he would never again smell her peachy aroma

Extinguished was their fire
Left feeling like a liar
Promises of a long fulfilled life
But nothing left except strife

Depression for a year
Everyday herald a tear
Daily visits to Shenae
But nothing, could he say
“It’s time” they said
While he was next to her bed
A choice he had made
Next to where Shenae laid

The bright sun rises
Over the endless horizon
As the tear of love
Glided down from above

A funeral was held, days later
But he felt like it all didn’t matter
He gave a long eulogy
Of his beloved spouse and he

The pain would always remain
For years and years his bane
But the driver, he eventually forgave
After many visits to Shenae’s grave

Dimmer the colours of the world became
And everything reminded him, of her name
But he always worked hard
As if to play one final card

He stood on the porch
Staring at the far distant torch
Over the horizon it rose
He thought about what he had chose

In his mind there was only one thing
It sounded like a constant ring
One single, endless, repeated name
All he though about was Shenae

The sun in the distance set, and with it the final tear of love
Gliding down slowly, following the path of a dove.
