Ode To Loneliness Poem by Matthew Henning

Ode To Loneliness

My soul has become a well.
Deep, and dark, and
Overflowing for all to witness.
But after years of giving, and giving,
I think I'm beginning to dry up.
leave me be.

Let me retreat into the comfort,
of my stone-walled shell.
let comfortable silence,
echo through the halls of my heart.
Let me wrap myself up,
in the blankets of my thoughts.
I can watch the world age,
as clouds roll by in lazy blue skies
while I reside safely
in the castle of my mind.

My soul is a well
and my only wish
is for the deafening storm of the world
to be washed away
by quiet loneliness.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The basis of this poem was to capture that feeling of loneliness, but not to analyze it under the light of negativity, but to celebrate that beautiful sensation of having the world to yourself.
