Ode To Gary Tallant Mbe Poem by mark tallant

Ode To Gary Tallant Mbe

The postman knocked at the Tallants door
As they had their toast and tea
‘There’s a very important letter here
It comes from the Ministry’
A puzzled look crossed Mary’s face
‘Gary, its addressed to Thee’.

Oh the drums go bash
And the symbols clash
It’s a grand old sight to see!
But who’d have thought a Tallant boy
Would win the M.B.E!

Gary read the words aloud
‘Its from number ten’ said he
‘Congratulations we do concur
To you and your family’
You are cordially invited to meet
the queen
You’ve have won the M.B.E.

Oh the drums go bash
And the symbols clash
It’s a grand old sight to see!
But who’d have thought a Tallant boy
Would win the M.B.E!

He went to see the queen of course
Who gave a big swaree.
She beckoned Gary to her throne
On which she sat in a big marquee
“Is that yerself” she said to him
In a twang from across the
Irish Sea!

Oh the drums go bash
And the symbols clash
It’s a grand old sight to see!
But who’d have thought a Tallant boy
Would win the M.B.E!

‘Tis me alright’ our Gaz replied
As bold as brass can be
‘Oh boy! Bi Jes! Go on yerself
Come here and sit by me’.
‘No fear sez gaz I’ll miss the fun
An’ave ‘eard its all buckshee’!

Oh the drums go bash
And the symbols clash
It’s a grand old sight to see!
But who’d have thought a Tallant boy
Would win the M.B.E!

She roared with laughter
She slapped her knee
And gave a wink or three
And she danced around that throne of hers
As she sang out loud with glee!

‘Oh the drums go bash
and the symbols clash
It’s a grand old sight to see!
But who’d have thought a Tallant boy
Would win the M.B.E'!
