Ode To Father Poem by Valentine Mbagu

Ode To Father

Here in this lonely heart of mine, I weep
Weeping for he whose heat gave me life
He lost a battle only he would have won
Alas, he was defeated by the dirt of death.

There in the cold arms of death, you were defeated
You whose heart was brave enough to fight
Upon these isles of struggle you've battled
Alas, you were bitten by the serpent of death.

A brave warrior you were, I weep to see you go
The cold arms of death took you away from me
You who promised to protect and keep me from harm
Alas, you were harmed by the dart of death.

On your grave I make a promise with my life
That this son of yours will fulfil all your dreams
I'll lead a good legacy for my unborn generation
My unborn children I wish that you stayed alive to caress.

Until the end of time, you'll forever be in my heart
I hope you rested in peace where ever you are
Till we meet again, I hope to be stronger every day
Until then, your memory will forever remain green in my heart.
