Ode To A Creosote Bush Poem by Juan Olivarez

Ode To A Creosote Bush

They spread out forever, careless and free
mainstay of the desert, a veritable sea.

Of green in the middle of yellows and browns
tiny yellow flowers adorn their evening gowns

Forever thirsty, they still remain green
In the middle of nowhere they show off their sheen.

Catching the dew that forms late at night,
Providing the moisture for small creatures that hide,

Beneath and around them buried in the sand,
The cresote bush is king of this land.

4/20/10 29 palms ca.
