Odd Treatment Poem by Caroline Lazar

Odd Treatment

Chemotherapy - they poison you
but they poison the cancer worse,
so they say.

Radiotherapy - they fry you
but they fry the cancer worse,
so they say.

Sledgehammers
to crack invisible nuts.
Maybe the cancer has already gone.
But are you a betting man?

If therapies, so they say,
make your chances evens or better,

would you back the rank outsider
of operation only?
Or would you put yourself through
some short-term pain
and hope for long-term life
(and that the side-effects will go away) .
