Ocular Tango Poem by Arielle Howze

Ocular Tango

I wanted to avert my eyes but....

Charismatic energy radiating off of you compelled me to hold your gaze

I matched your intensity with feigned confidence

As you glided past me my false pretense was shattered and I gasped for the breath that your very stare siphoned from me

My heart slowed considerably then raced to overcompensate for its lapse in rhythm

We were moving just as fast as my heart yet time was distorted

The power of hypnosis lied within the portals of your eyes
You could charm a nun if you had the inclination

Chemistry transpired in our silly little staring contest
