O Persephone! Poem by Kathy Lippard Cobb

O Persephone!

Rating: 5.0

Hills and valleys cloaked in fawn;
The tangled trees are leafless now.
Persephone, where have you gone?

The world lost to an icy dawn—
A barren field beneath the plow;
Hills and valleys cloaked in fawn.

Are you Hades' faithful pawn?
Mother wipes her worried brow.
Persephone, where have you gone?

Summer keeps her curtains drawn—
She hopes you'll find your way somehow;
Hills and valleys cloaked in fawn.

Mother puts her black dress on.
Somewhere you pledge a loveless vow.
Persephone, where have you gone?

No green grass to dance upon—
Summer takes her solemn bow;
Hills and valleys cloaked in fawn.
Persephone, where have you gone?
