O Brave Son Of The Sea Poem by Joyce Hemsley

O Brave Son Of The Sea

Robert Falcon Scott of the Antarctic,
Naval Captain and Explorer...
born in England, eighteen sixty-eight,
died, a British Hero, on his last journey
from the South Pole ~ nineteen-twelve...

During his naval career from the age
of thirteen, Scott became a Captain,
leading two Antarctic Expeditions:
First trip 1901 in 'The Discovery',
exploration of the Ross Sea, and
the adjoining King Edward VII land.
Second trip 1910 in the 'Terra Nova',
achieving his ambition, the South Pole.
Coincidentally, Norway's Amundsen
arrived two weeks ahead in the
race to the South Pole.

Sadly on the last homeward journey
in the dreadful blizzards of nineteen-twelve,
four of the crew died, including Scott.
Books have been written
and films have been made,
referring to his courage and gallantry...
O Brave Son of The Sea!
Robert Falcon Scott of the Antarctic
will ever live in our memory.
