Now What Are You Going To Do (Poverty) Poem by A. P. Hancock

Now What Are You Going To Do (Poverty)

Dedicated to All Our Homeless Friends Around the World

I saw my old friend Cal today, Boxcar Shorty was his name
Riding the rail from town to town, was his fortune and his fame
He was standing in the middle ground, with the poor sign in his hand
You won’t believe why I was there, I was looking for some land

I’d just been down the street a bit, to an old abandoned place
The grass was high, the weeds were tall, it looked like a dire disgrace
But the site had great potential for, the purpose I had in mind
That’s the thing that made this day special, the place I was trying to find

I was looking for a place where those like Shorty, could find some peace and rest
I was looking for a place where the homeless ones, could find a spot to nest
I was looking for a place where hurting ones, could find the help to heal
I was looking for a place where the hungry ones, could find a good hot meal

And there in the midst of my searching hard, was Shorty right in the way
It was almost as if he was a sign himself, and a voice began to say
This is the face of the dream I have, its time the dream came true
This is the reason I brought you here, now what are you going to do
