Nothing To My Sleep! Poem by Gedion Onyango

Nothing To My Sleep!

And when that time come,
when my time come
I will go down into the darkest hole
where I will lie still and breathless
where I will rest and sublime bit of it
where I will feel painless
that's when that time come
but - they will still be the same
and when my time is gone
they will still fight
-and kill one another over
what they will never carry
to follow me
And when that time come,
my legacy shall have rolled
clouds and rains shall have wiped it
probably later than or longer than
but - long after my hole is forgotten
long when they have gone
long when their descendants
shall be killing one another
over what they will never carry
to follow me
floods will sip over our bodies
with their bloods
and these soils will weep with our unseen tears
And when that time come,
when my time come
I will remember the souls
that died of negligent hunger
and brutality of nature
greed and ‘gluttonness'
of their sons
I will forget the wars
and murders
and conspiracies
that will never be carried
to follow me.
And when that time come
when my time come
I will lie peacefully
tirelessly, breathlessly
and unperturbed
but - they will still be the same
fighting and killing
one another over nothing
they will carry
to follow me!
