Nothing Sobers Like Death For Itzhak (Itzig) Zaken Of Blessed Memory Poem by Shalom Freedman

Nothing Sobers Like Death For Itzhak (Itzig) Zaken Of Blessed Memory

NOTHING SOBERS LIKE DEATH FOR ITZHAK ZAKEN OF BLESSED MEMORY)

Nothing sobers us like death
Death wakes us from our dumb dream of happiness
It shoves the truth in our faces
We cannot escape it

Dreaming along today I had so many minor problems on my mind
Then I heard of the death of a neighborhood tzaddik
Who helped so many

Sadness and grief and forlornness
And unfairness came with this news

O Death you make life so much more difficult
Why can't you at least leave the good modest helpful people alone?

just today I was thinking, Nothing is forever only death, A truth so hard to accept.
