Not To Be Seen Poem by Fae Sebastian

Not To Be Seen

(It’s only a little thing, it won’t cause a problem)
In the back of our minds
There is a place
Covered in criss-crossing red and black words
(Don’t look, don’t see, this is not for you)
We hide our darkest secrets
The things we don’t tell our friends and family
Our own personal skeletons in our own personal closets
(Why did I do that, was I really that stupid, how can I ever take that back?)
We tuck it all away, under a rug that’s super-glued to the floor
As we turn away their presence tickles our brains
For we never really deal with them, never truly conquer them
(I can’t fix that, I wish I hadn’t done it, what can I do! ?)
As these things build up, they weigh us down
Cover us in a blanket of our own sins
And block out the world’s bright light
(I’m scared, I’m lost, there’s no way to get home)
But we do nothing to stop it
We simply tuck more and more little things back there
Always marked not to be seen
(I wish I’d done something!)
