Not By My Power Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

Not By My Power

Yesterday, when I was lonely
You were all I have and got; just only
I stretched my arms; no, it touched nobody
But you reassured me; for I am part of your body
For to you I come; as I have labored
I know surely under your shelter, I will be harboured
Lord, you are truer than the breaking day
For this reason I will never go away

I breathe
I have my clothe
I am happy to be alive
All through your mercy and glory
Not by my power

Today, my two eyes are dried of tears
My heart is bigger and devoid of all fears
I have stopped leaving the life of a needy
Farewell to poverty which makes me greedy
I saw with my own eyes all the vices in life
They have all gone leaving me with a new life
I can dance and rejoice
I am proud to be the Lord’s choice
