Not All Politicians Poem by Francis Duggan

Not All Politicians

Not all politicians do lie through their teeth
And not all politicians are full of deceit
And not all politicians will lie to save face
Though as a whole they seem a different race

From all other people since they wheel and deal
And under mining their opposite numbers to them does appeal
And they spread propaganda to make themselves look good
And politicians well practiced at slinging verbal mud.

Not all politicians are untrustworthy cheats
Who will lie to hang on to their Parliament seats
Amongst the deceitful the trustworthy few
Though of the truth of the matter we already knew.

Of political corruption we so often read
But not all politicians the public mislead
And not all politicians only think of their own need
Though the ruthless in politics seem to succeed.

Not all politicians are crooks in disguise
Amongst the corrupted are the just and the wise
And though decent politicians in minority
The good with the bad mixed it would seem to me.
