Not A Good Penning Day Poem by Francis Duggan

Not A Good Penning Day

For me it has not been a good penning day
The lady of rhyme from me seems far away
The cold winds of Winter blow up from the bay
And the rhymes don't come to me that's life some might say
The song of the pee wee so pleasant to hear
And the flute of the magpie melodious and clear
Some birds every day of the year like to sing
Whilst most birds save their singing voices for Spring
A chilly Winter's day in June with coldness in the breeze
With a temperature low of four and a high of six degrees
Compared to the sunny and balmy weather of late Fall
It has not been a good start to Winter at all
And the lady of rhyme is not smiling my way
For me it will not be a good penning day.
