North Country Girl Blues #606 (drft1)
For you I try to keep these lines straight
But when my mind wanders
Worse when the dreams come
I get lost in the endless chatter of my heart
As I worry about you and your eyes, oh how must they look?
I have but a dream a night or two passing
And I tire endlessly to remember the shape of them
The color I know and get lost with the deep shades
The slight flecks of blue silver, the spark of evermore;
I remember the day when I was kind
Loathing the days of my unkindness;
Too many words crooked and cruel
To show you I can cover my heavy heart.
As I grow older I care not for costumes
Nor fortunes from lonely barkers
With crumbling cookies to offer the birds.
I care not for marriage, nor money or pride
I care not for pity, nor falsehood, or reason.
I care of you and your light and journey...
With deep love I have for you I send these words
For your soul somewhere;
To know you are the one I write most endless.
Please do not fear;
I am what I was so many years ago.
I am here and I will always love.
If you are lost
If you are unhappy- -you have someone
I am here
Girl from the north country;
Time dims and pride is like a thief.
If you feel, if you dream of me,
I am here.
What matters anyway when we are dust?
