No Ordinary Day Poem by Nicola Kelly

No Ordinary Day

written from brave stories I have read about survivors of 911)

It was just another  ordinary day,
No different from the day before,
Headed to work in rush hour,
When the plane hit her tower.

She worked in the North Tower,
Situated on the 11th floor and,
Approx 9am events began to unfold,
To evacuate immediately they were told.

Panic set in and the sheer,
Disbelief of what was happening,
Set in all eyes the horror,
Of such an act of terror.

Running out of the building it,
Became clear the plane had
slammed,
Into them on the upper floors,
With bellowing smoke and fireballs.

Her friend was working on the,
95th floor that fateful day and,
Hoping and praying she'd gotten out,
In her heart she began to doubt.

No ordinary other day would this,
Ever be September 11th now etched,
Forever in her memory and worst,
Nightmares as the world observed.

How can such hatred ever exist,
Fueling the actions of a terrorist,
Constantly living in a state of threat,
No amount of time will help,
Her ever forgive or forget.
