No One Keeps The Promise Poem by Amitava Sur

No One Keeps The Promise

Rating: 5.0

Words we make, can only give - a hoards of pricking pain
No one keeps the promise after promising the same.

You promised to be around me for good for ever
Holding me within your arms and warmth together.

Then why did you withdraw your words in between,
Deserted me in mid of the way and left me so alone?

Many of them deceived me violating their promise
It agonizes, it frustrates by not honoring those words.

You being my love, pacified me with your sweet and soft voice
You gifted me a bouquet, being decorated with lovely words!

But alas! you also have broken that promise at last.
Deserted and broken I am, whom and how can I say? ?

It seems - Promise is a word today for the sake of just saying
No firmness, no commitment stands with it any more.

We promise many a dreams, goals and oaths
But nothing stands at last since the promise itself is lost.

Words we make, can only give - a hoards of pricking pain
No one keeps the promise after promising the same.

Beautiful flow of words from your pen...I loved reading all the lines.. Words we make can only give - a hoards of pricking pain No one keeps the promise after promising the same. Very true said, promises are mere words and they are meant only to be broken....

Very poignant, very intense. Life itself promises so much and never keeps it's promises. Humans are even worse at keeping promises - forgetting them as soon as they turn and leave your sight. Death is the hardest on us by making us break all our promises with no way to even apologize to those we hurt when we leave them behind.

True promises are short term today with an unspoken right reserved for breaking it. The words of Rajput promise are rare. good write.

One who leaves the world never breaks a promise. One who lives must live up to the promised expectations. A loss is a loss and I share with you in your feelings.

For another perspective on keeping promises may I humbly suggest my poem 'Promises of Consequence.' We are all hurt when someone important does not keep their word. But what if unbeknownst to us, to keep the giver's promise would produce dire consequences for either the giver of the receiver? Abraham promised to love, honor, and obey God but when God asks him to sacrifice the life of his only son, what is he to do? God released Abraham from his promise out of love for him. A father promises a new bike to his child for Christmas, but then loses his job, and the family needs the bike money for food? Your wife discovers that she is in love with someone else, she does not even blame you, but she no longer has the same feelings for you. Being with you makes her feel like she is betraying the man she now loves. These are tough issues, but I believe that love requires us to release others from their promises at times. If this not possible, how can we claim to love them at all? Is the aggrieved party the only one whose feelings are important? Promises are important yes and promises kept strengthen love, but love is more important than anything!

Often promises are sadly broken.... Many do not honour their words of promise, but some though bent upon keeping their promise are sadly made to break their promise by powers beyond their control..... Somehow, hope and despair, pain and joy are all part of life.... We have to accept the inevitable...... What else can be done Amitava! An emotive write!
