No Ideas Except In Things Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

No Ideas Except In Things

that was one poet's key to his poetry

every thing he wrote about
in both his prose and poetry
from a red wheel barrow
and a chicken
to the stubborn child
with diphtheria
who resisted
his use of force and
the wooden tongue depressor

he wrote explicitly
with a poet's eye
of cluttered yards
and garage mechanics
and the gangbangers
on Guinea Hill
and life along
the Passaic River
-all the while he visited
and tended his patients
with a physician's loving care
