No Fixed Abode Poem by Francis Duggan

No Fixed Abode

They've travelled on many a road
The people of no fixed abode
From place to place and town to town
They drive on the highways up and down.

Not born to be of nomadic race
Yet they quickly tire of the one place
To the Goddess of wander they belong
And the wanderlust in them is strong.

No steady job for them of eight to five
And on little money they survive
In any one place they do not wish to stay
The World is their oyster one might say.

Not belong to any specific clan
The travelling woman and her man
Of settled parentage yet a strange breed
A wandering life they choose to lead.

And yet they do seem free of care
A day's work here and a day's work there
And if their boss does not treat them well
Their stay with him just a brief spell.

And in their travels far and wide
They've been through many a Countryside
Quite happy to be on the road
The people of no fixed abode.
