Night Vision Poem by Sonya Florentino

Night Vision

Rating: 5.0

You dance around it on tiptoe
Skimming the surface
Ever so shallow
When will you take the plunge
When will you sink and drown
When will you get to the bottom
where you know it can be found

Only then can you re-surface
Struggling to come up
Gasping for air
Knowing you care
Desperate to win back
Your life
Finally undestanding
The night
Finally knowing
You want to survive
Desperate for light
Which you now search for
With a new pair of eyes

This poem is saying more than at first appears, I'm sure. Perhaps we do need sometimes to 'sink and drown' before we know what we are looking for.

Fine use of metaphor. You have the spirit and the courage to survive. We are all writing for our lives, Sonya. Take care. Kind regards, Sandra

This is one of those extended metaphors that really works. Even though you do not say what it is you are talking about directly, in this case that works to allow us all to fill in the blank with our own meaning from our own lives. Thank you Sonya, a deep, meaningful poem.

Some great symbols in here about the waters of emotions. Really well done the way you gradually worked through to the conclusion. Sounds just like real life and the way we will tiptoe all around a problem, looking at it from every which way before finally giving in to just tackle the thing finally (hold our breath, step off that diving board..LOL)

Sometimes before we find the rainbow we need to feel the rain. You have written so much passion and wisdom into this poem and it has a very strong message. Well done! 10 Karin Anderson
