Night Train Poem by Kwai Chee Low

Night Train

My first time on a long night train
Strange rolling motions merge with the falling rain
Bright lights soon yield to eerie shadows
Flash past beyond the cabin windows

Conversations in hushed voices
As if not to upset the night time noises
A mother hugging her child to sleep
Toddlers playing in glee in a heap

I wonder what is in their minds
Anxiously longing for what they may not find?
Families not met in a long while
A bride waiting to walk down the aisle?

Night's dark cloak soon a brightened glow
The sun's finger like warmth continues to grow
Excited voices 'There's the station! '
What awaits at our destination?
