Nigeria Arise And Save Thyself Poem by Henry Isiekwe

Nigeria Arise And Save Thyself

Nigeria, my great country
take heart and be strong
Cast your eyes off the
sores and bruises that
Afflict your fine body
Forget your pain and sorrows
Stay strong my mother land
For your redemption is near

Nigeria my brave queen
Look up in the bright horizon
and be hopeful again
Look at the greatness of your children
and relish again the joys of nationhood
Look at your vast fields and riches
And be reminded of your true greatness.

Nigeria, my good kind mother
Forgive the misdeeds and
folly of your children
Do not disown your own children
Forgive them for being children
They know not what they do.

Great Queen
Look only to those
who scorn you for vengence
Arise Nigeria and avenge
the wickedness of those
who work day and night
to divide your household.
Show no mercy on the scoundrels
Who have turned
your children against you
And incite them to revolt against you

Spare not the thieves and rogues
who loot your treasury
and burn your cities to the ground
Spare not those who lie
and say to strangers 'we have built a hundred power plants to provide Nigera electric power'
while darkness continues to
blindfolds our household everyday

Unleash your anger on those who
are bent on turning your great kindom into a donkey town
Unleash your wrath on those who have denounced the rule of law
And have proclaimed impunity
ruler over our land

Nigeria arise and save thyself
Save thyself from those who make
us a country of asses and a nation of shame!

Arise Nigeria and defend thyself
Avenge the wickedness of those
who slay our Mandelas
Avenge the wickedness of those
who make us hunger and thirst
in the abundance of our land
Those who hold the cure to our maladies
and possess the power to heal us
but choose to watch us die

Forgive them not for they know
the very evils they perpetrate against you
Wake up Nigeria and reclaim your glory
Rise up brave queen and proclaim
your greatness over your land.
