Never Poem by Peter Eliastam

Never

Not by stealth, Assassin,
Neither by the wealth of your reported arsenals
Will you procure the fall of Israel,

Nor celebrate Jerusalem aborted.
Euphoric in your heat of hate, you touch the eye of God
Who touch the State.

As long as sun and moon endure,
And day and night bear witness to the brightness
Of the sure prophetic Word,

Heaven’s fusillades of light
Will find you out, interrogate you, dredge you derelict,
Diffused before men’s eyes.

Assassin! Israel never dies!
