Nellie O Connor Poem by Francis Duggan

Nellie O Connor

Always generous and kindhearted this song is penned in her honour
All in Coolikerane will mourn the passing of Maurice's widow Nellie O Connor
In Coolikerane she was raised and there she raised her children and she is one we will remember
Her fate one day will be our fate for all of us a last December.

Such a warm and nice and lovely person down to earth and unconceited
One who never sought the limelight or never wished for to be feted
An unsung and quiet achiever yet her greatness should be noted
A good mother to her children and to her late husband Maurice devoted.

She will be missed by family and friends there was so much to love about her
And though she was not a young person Coolikerane worse off without her
Good memories of her destined to live on her life one worthy of recalling
Sad when the mentors of our young years to the reaper's scythe are falling.

Such a good and decent person so helpful and so kindhearted
Sad to think that by Cashman's hill her remains lay with Millstreet's departed
We who knew her won't forget her this song is penned in her honour
We retain great memories of her may she rest in peace Nellie O Connor.
