Nature's Fury (The Deluge) Poem by Valsa George

Nature's Fury (The Deluge)

Rating: 5.0

As the month of June draws near,
Summer loosens its fiery grip,
Cool blows the wind, sweeping the humid air,
And dark clouds gather in distant skies.

Sound of thunder falls in rumbling notes,
Flash of lightning sears the sky,
Soon comes the sound of falling rain,
Pitter - Patter, it falls on roofs and walls.

Rain has come after a scorching spell,
Bathing the Earth in splendid shower,
It washes the leaves in sparkling green,
And fills up every pond and well.

Fishes dance in winding streams,
Frogs croak in pools of green,
Children play with paper boats,
Puddle or pool, they hardly care.

Deep or shallow they never gauge,
In tire less cheer they splash and swim,
Elders scream at their yippee pranks,
The muddy water drives them mad!

II

As it rains for days on end,
Rivers swell and hollows fill,
Land mass slips and trees fall,
Hurricane comes and oceans rise,

Waves surf and waters roar,
Like mountains, they lash at receding shores,
Fisher men evicted from thatched huts,
Helter-skelter, they flee for life.

Lands inundate and folks marooned,
Epidemics break loose, livestock perish,
Crops fail and misery prevails,
Havoc wreaks and penury strikes.

As Nature plays her perfidious trick,
We stand aghast, unable to move or act,
Horror strikes us dazed and dead.
When the Deluge chants the dirge of dying souls!

Nature's fury is both unpredictable and devastating! I experienced it personally in the 2005 floods in Mumbai. The experience leaves you as a insignificant being on earth. Nature's fury is a powerful write! A full score for this brilliant poem! I love all your poems, Valsa!

We stand aghast, unable to move or act, Horror strikes us dazed and dead..... // The first part of the poems brings to us a picture of joy on the change of season after scorching summers while part two creates a picture of devastation and havoc wreaked by extremely stormy weather. It also reminds me of the recent destruction caused by 'Varda' in Tamil Nadu. Thanks, Valsa ji.

In the second line of the fifth stanza, the word should perhaps be 'tireless' instead of 'tire less' The poem, so well written, deserves full marks and I gladly give it: 5 Stars *****! I recommend this poem to be selected as the 'Member Poem of the Day', if not already chosen earlier.

The deluge has been described in great details. The language and tone of the poem goes well with the situation described. My appreciation for harmonizing that. 'Children play with paper boats, Puddle or pool, they hardly care.' - Reminds me of my childhood days. 'Crops fail and misery prevails, Havoc wreaks and penury strikes.' - A common scene after a deluge.

Rain has come after a scorching spell and the Earth has bathed in splendid shower. A great imagery is drawn in this poem that is completely motivational. Nature plays her perfidious trick and witness this. Summer loosens its fiery grip dark clouds gather in distant skies and make rain of mercy. Through nature we feel God's grace. This is excellently penned...10
