Nature And My Wondering Mind Poem by Mwihaki Kahiga

Nature And My Wondering Mind

I am walking down the street, taking a random shot of the sunset,
A guinea fowl runs across the road and as i look at its beautiful colours i am tempted to run after it,
As if reading my mind it runs faster into the thickets and i stand there staring at nothing at all.

My minds wonders to the past and i remember chasing other things,
I remember chasing after friends,
Chasing after wealth,
Chasing after fame,
And i end up at the point where they all disappeared just like the guinea fowl.

I look at the horizon and the beauty of the yellow skys overwhelms me,
I imagine what life would be if just like the sun it rose and flew across the universe despite the many obstacles,
With or without rain or the clouds it still follows its routine, shinning across the globe from all possible routes.

As i start to walk again i see a beautiful forest on my left,
Birds are singing their songs as if there is a trophy awaiting the winner,
Crickets are having the afternoon tea,
And because the rains have left stagnant waters all around the frogs are making merry like there is no tomorrow,
I do a 360 degree turn, with a blank mind, worries aside and the beauty is breathtaking,
All i want is to live the moment for a lifetime.

Life is beautiful when worry is absent,
Life is fulfilling when lived as if there is no tomorrow,
Life is simple when lived right,
Life is challenging but achievable any day,
Life is a gift,
Life is positive when attitudes are right,
Life is life, because life is in us, around us and between lives

As i get closer to the house i look up and the stars are forming on the darkening sky,
Reminding me the day is over but not vainly,
I have learnt the lessons of the day,
From the last moments of the day,
I have grown wiser,
I have achieved peace,
I have every reason to keep my smile,
And like the guinea fowl i run into my house for shelter,
Hoping that my settled mind will keep me rested for the night
