My Wish For The World Poem by Alizee Akhtar

My Wish For The World

I wish they would look up at the world;
That all those could see what I had saw.
I hope they stare at the stars like diamonds-
Would look up at the sky in awe.
Yet, instead, they face down at their hypnotising phones;
Would glare at the mini, little screens.
Won't the people ever see at all? That the world is more important than their Instagram feed?

I wish that they would look up at the world;
That they would admire the beautiful skies.
I hope they gaze at the stunning scenery-
See the wonder in front of their eyes.
Yet, instead, they look towards their lifeless laptops;
The one they begged for on their birthday.
Won't the people ever see at all? That the world's vibrant colours will soon fade away?

I wish that they would look up at the world;
See the world is so much better without a screen.
I hope they see the beauty without a filter-
Adore everything, EVERYTHING, I have seen.
Yet, instead, they FaceTime their friends;
The boasting babble about new cars.
Won't the people ever see at all? That the world is more talented than pointless pop stars?

I wished that you would've looked up at the world;
That you would've seen the masterpiece around them.
I hoped that you would've seen the seas and skies-
Would've looked at the world that shines like a gem.
But you wanted to glare at your gadgets;
You wouldn't put them don and let go.
How did you never notice the beauty? Now the beautiful world is gone...
