My Wise Friend Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

My Wise Friend

You
My wise friend
So much
Of my hidden angst
So much of hidden
Thought
Uncovered quite.

For
In you
Burns the same
Fire that burnt
Inside the Poet Seer
When
In the love of the Muse
He writ verse and chanted
Songs.

Yes
You were there
Yes
My friend
Yes.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

You identified this poem by the single word FRIENDSHIP which strikes me as accurate but not obvious. The speaker's gratitude is muted because he is a private person. Still to acknowledge his gratitude he reveals more than has previously. For example, angst and thought are certainly differentiated, angst being feeling-oriented and thought reasoning-oriented. Both, however, lift the veil over human experience and reveal more sadness. Gratitude expressed toward a sensitive friend is the best thing in this poem, In the last stanza the speaker adds nothing to his argument, he just wants to live a while longer in the atmosphere his friend creates.
