My Two Best Friends Poem by Cathy King

My Two Best Friends

My two best friends took a walk last night, and it wasn't too hard to see
By the look in their eyes, when they came inside, that they'd been discussing me.
She told me just to let it go, since I'd heard it all before,
And he admired her self-restraint in not saying something more.

My two best friends had a talk last night, and I'm almost completely sure
They talked about how I look at him when we're not hanging out with her.
She'd risk far less in admitting this than I would in crossing the line,
And yet he admires her self-restraint-while he waits for the end of mine.

The first couplet drew me in. This very compact piece implies much more than it says, and the rhythm carries the whole thing along beautifully. Is there a sequel to it?
