My Turtle Dove Poem by MARY PAGDATI

My Turtle Dove

The doorbell rang, who could it be?
I dashed to open, but there was no one but me.
No friends or carollers, no Santa or sleigh;
Gone was my smile as I stood in the doorway.

But at my doorstep was an unusual package;
Who'd leave it for me, in this quaint little village?
As it lay there, cold and alone,
I felt it was special like a precious rhinestone.

I cradled it, close to my troubled heart;
I knew just then that we'd never part.
It filled me with Joy, Peace and Love;
I'd be a fool to not see, that it was from above.

"You belong in my home, " I said in a whisper;
So I placed it under the tree, amid the gold and silver.
While snugging it up with the opulent presents,
The room was infused with warm spicy incense.

And as I bent over, kneeling on one knee,
A glimmer of light came forth to me.
It out-dazzled the lustre of the flickering lights;
Something had changed this cold winter night.

"Stay close beside me, do not go astray, "
Was the voice in my heart, that fine Christmas Day.
"My Peace you will have in all that you do,
For this is the gift I have brought to you."

I had to speak of this joyous moment;
With all the world that could not condone it.
A rare gift indeed to be given so freely,
When ‘Peace & Love' is paid so dearly!

And so it was, that the message of old,
Came to my door and touched my household.
In meekness and Grace it shed its Love;
I finally had my White Turtle Dove!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

'Peace & Love' is what all mankind seeks, not just on Christmas Day, but throughout each new day. Some find it, others don't, for we all seek it in a myriad of ways. I pray that each and every soul this Christmas finds this priceless gift at their doorstep. God Bless
