My Take On God's Grace Poem by Joan Mashura

My Take On God's Grace

5.29.08

Grace it is as simple as it is complex
God is the teacher who determines
when grace is bestowed and
we are the students who will grasp the concept
when God so desires it

What is grace you may ask?
It is a spiritual name for serendipity
It is unexpected “good” fortune
The good fortune to know the truth
The strength to act on that truth

Grace is not about figuring out the past and trying to correct it
Grace is not worrying about the future
Grace is living in the present
Living in the present to heal the wounds of the past and
looking forward to a future that is beyond the mind’s imagination

When we pray in earnest, God hears and listens
He takes pity on us and shows His mercy
He shows His mercy by showering us with His grace
His grace is like a drenching thunderstorm
Nothing is left dry

To unlock this grace we must joyously raise our voices up to heaven
With zeal we must pray for one another’s redemption
With humility we must ask God to show His mercy and love
When He pours forth His good grace,
we should cast out our nets and fill them to overflowing

Grace is not about selfish acts, it is about self-giving acts
When God presents himself in the smallest of tasks
to the largest of up hill battles, depend only on His grace
What we decide to do with God’s grace is completely up to us
Grace it is as simple as it is complex
