My Selfish Heart Poem by Jake Andrews

My Selfish Heart

My heart beats for its own sake
Listen and you will hear the rhythm
Anticipate for the predictable beat
Do not wait for the beat to change

My heart will not mold to your rhythm
It wants only to beat for its sake
Pumping only to keep my soul alive
Watch my body flush red with life

My heart wanted to sing with yours
Dancing away to a similar rhythm
But your step did not keep with mine
These dancing feet fell out of sync

My heart nearly skipped a beat
Trying hard to match the song
Maybe our steps will never match
I can sing, I just cant sing along
