My Scattered Thoughts Ii Poem by Shahzia Batool

My Scattered Thoughts Ii

Rating: 4.3

i experience daily growth, daily change
some addition, some subtraction,
some division of spirit, multiplication of all my selves
some positive, some otherwise
(negative is a harsh word but is there any harm in admitting it?)
but it keeps me going...this change, this growth
what i was, i am not, somebody said,
what i am, i shall not be
but one regret will be there,
i shall lose the essential Me, i love the most, yet i'm not a narcissist
the world is a great teacher,
though the world is a bad teacher...

why is the subject of Life compulsory?

Your scattered thoughts seem to be searching for a formula for life, considering first addition subtraction division then multiplication, shifting into positive negative as formulas for change growth. The phrase the sum is more than the total of all the parts, seems appropriate as you shift into philosophy, but it keeps me going...this change, this growth recognizes the inevitable necessity of change. As Shakespeare said All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, .... A philosopher might have said, if trying to state the question of life in terms of poetic philosophy what i was, i am not, somebody said, what i am, i shall not be but one regret will be there, i shall lose the essential Me, i love the most, yet i'm not a narcissist The shift from what i was, i am not, is interesting, because it has been said we are all three separate facets, which define yet do not define our character and personality. First what we think we are, second what others think we are, and finally what we really are. In the first self appraisal, some individuals are more honest and aware of what defines them than others, a few fall short more due to ego and self deception. The second what others think of us has many variations, due to our personality and character shifts over time. Also the perspective of viewers determined as; family, especially parents siblings, good friends or false friends, and analysis by those with superficial data, will shift the opinion of what others think we are markedly. Lastly to determine what we really are, extended even into a judgement weighing of our souls; this would require an all knowing God to access. Your statement i shall lose the essential Me, is an extension from what you are, to losing the essential me; the you as an essential part of yourself that should not be lost. His raises questions we can address. Do you have to lose, sacrifice an essential you? Can you not above all else, to thy own self be true? Is it necessary to compromise beliefs? This merges into reasons for compromise and sacrificing belief. The character and will of those who will and will not compromise, and the degree of compromise, the changes this must force in us; change that may creep in over time, even years, versus sudden dramatic changes. The declaration yet i'm not a narcissist; defines an extremely interesting question between self awareness and self appreciation, contrasted with narcissism. Key here is can we love others if we do not love ourselves? The turn the world is a great teacher, / though the world is a bad teacher is both true and profound. The world has incredible life lessons to teach, some may live extremely long lives and learn little or nothing, while others learn unique insights in a short lifespan. Why? Because some are willing to learn and embrace life, while others, stubborn angry resist all learning and forgiveness? In philosophy this would perhaps encompass concepts like plenty, excess, ease and greed, which may teach little except selfishness; while adversity and tragedy impacting upon individuals with faith, strength of character etc; may or will learn universal insights and wisdom, through the awful grace of God? An interesting poem to reflect on.

Life is a constant challenge, a road with many diversions, some leading to a positive outcome, others more negative - a leaning process, at the end of which...... who knows? ! !

'zindgi khelti hy saanson sy. Mot tmasha dekhti hay abhi.' ... I think, a body can die. How a wish can die! Wish relates with life. It is a game play. Actually we are not game makers.

Valerie Dohren wrote in her comment: Life is a constant challenge, a road with many diversions, some leading to a positive outcome, others more negative - a leaning process, at the end of which...... who knows? ! ! i think she meant to write learning, not leaning. BUT leaning is appropriate here as well. we all lean on other people or things (including thoughts) from birth to death. it is good to have something to lean on sometimes, AND to offer others a chance to lean on us sometimes. thanks for sharing, Shahzia and Valerie and the others who commented and ph. :)

You are right, we are growing every second. And the world is a bad teacher if you look at this way. Always good to look at everything, let it be good or bad, that what did we learn from it. Then you will see, that life is what you expect of it. The best is not to follow those who you do not approve. Believe that everything works for your good, and it will.

Yes, Shahzia, for most of us, life is compulsory; also, always compelling. Good or bad, life appears to be the only real teacher. Outstanding work!
